I just found out my Wife's Cousin is a Chambers Nut Too

Just found out that my wife's cousin is a Certified Chambers Stove Addict.

He has Not One, Not Two, Not Three, but SIX (!) Chambers stoves, all restored. The only one in use is a model 61C. The rest are just for show. Wow. Now I have an inside source for restoration help!

What's your cousin's opinion about safety systems?

His opinion of the safety systems is that his grandmother and great grandmother didn't need one and neither does he. He does not use the stovetop or thermowell pilot lights, just lights the burners with one of those long butane lighters.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to install an oven safety. I don't like the idea of 8 cubic feet of gas going off all at once.

I don't use the stovetop or thermowell pilot lights either, but that still doesn't take care of the problem if you're baking in the oven and the pilot and flame go out in there and you've got a burner or two going on the stovetop and you open the oven door - kablaaammm!!. Or you open the oven door and someone lights a candle - kabooommm! Or someone even flicks a light switch - see ya later charlie!

I didn't know that the thermowell had a separate pilot until fairly recently. I had the gas guy adjust my burners and he turned this pilot light off at my request. Well, a couple months later when I finally got around to using the thermowell, I just lit it and cooked and put the lid back on it. In the morning I was proudly telling my husband how well insulated Chambers are because "look, the Thermowell is still warm!" Yes, it was still warm because the pilot light was still burning (as it should have been for those previous months). Well, it's off now. And I'm glad nothing bad happened from that little faux pas.

Mark/lowracer; Would your cousin (or you) post pictures of all his stoves on our virtual convention? I'd really like to see as many Chambers as possible.
